About the Event

Piero della Francesca is celebrated today as a foundational artist of the Renaissance, and his influence on the development of Renaissance painting in Florence and its spread throughout Italy is unparalleled among Italian painters of the fifteenth century. His works are a harmonious fusion of art and science, distinguished by their precise use of perspective—a skill that reflects his background as a mathematician. Piero can be characterized as a "wandering painter," traveling extensively from his birthplace in the humble Tiber River valley to the grand Italian courts of the 15th century.

Despite being one of the most cherished and intriguing artists of our time, Piero della Francesca was only rediscovered in the mid-19th century after centuries of relative obscurity. Following his death in 1492, his artistic contributions were largely forgotten until they were recognized anew, leading to the celebration of his work in the present day.
