The Golden Age of Florence was deeply intertwined with the rise of the Medici family, whose wealth, influence, and vision transformed the city into the cradle of the Renaissance. At the heart of their power was the Medici Bank, one of the most sophisticated financial institutions of its time. Founded by Giovanni di Bicci de' Medici in the late 14th century, the bank not only made the Medici family extraordinarily wealthy but also positioned Florence as the financial capital of Europe. The Medici Bank’s success allowed the family to extend their influence beyond finance, shaping Florence’s political, cultural, and artistic landscape.
